Sources & Standards

Entertainment coverage attracts rumour. This page explains how PopCulture UK finds, weighs and verifies information — the official bodies we rely on, and the independent publications we monitor alongside our own reporting. It is maintained by the editorial team and reviewed regularly.

Our sourcing principles

  • On the record first. Official statements, filings, charts data and named interviews outrank anonymous claims.
  • Rumour is labelled as rumour. Unconfirmed reports are clearly attributed and never presented as fact.
  • Attribution. Key claims, figures and dates are attributed to a named, checkable source.
  • Independence. Coverage is never sold; affiliate or sponsored content is labelled and kept separate.
  • Correction over ego. When we are wrong, we fix it promptly and say so.

How we evaluate a source

  1. Authority – is the person or organisation genuinely positioned to know?
  2. Independence – who benefits if the claim spreads?
  3. Evidence – is there a document, dataset or first-hand account behind it?
  4. Track record – has the source been accurate before?
  5. Corroboration – can at least one independent source confirm the key facts?
